Throat Stones

Any suggestions as to how to get rid of throat stones? I asked my doctor and dentist, however niether can give me an answer as to why I have them or how to get rid of them. They have gotten worse over the past 9 months - basically every other hour I'm cleaning the side of my tonsil with a q-tip just get rid of the foul smell/taste. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
ACL

Re: Throat Stones

ACL2006,

I am afraid to say the only true cure is to remove your tonsils. You can minimize the problem with routine gargles of listerine, but they will continue to come back. You should go to an ENT and get evaluated.

Re: Throat Stones

Well... being that I'm 41, having my tonsils removed doesn't sound like a great plan of attact, however, getting into see a ENT specialist sounds like my next step. Thank you for your time and I guess I should buy stock in Listerine

Thanks - ACL

Re: Throat Stones

ACL2006, my daughter has suffered with tonsil stones for many years now. She has never found a cure for them. The only thing she can suggest that might help is to gargle with salt water. There is also a product called Bioteen that is supposed to help, maybe ask a pharmacist for advice.

Re: Throat Stones

Hi I had the same throat stone problem, and my ENT said the only way to get rid of them is tonsillectomy. so I got one and well you can read my postings under Tonsillectomy Sept. 27. Good luck

Re: Throat Stones

I'm a 22 yr old male who had his tonsils removed when about 11 years of age. However, beginning last fall, I began to cough up small, off-white, hard or waxy objects that smell like the bad taste or bad breath I sometimes experience, but concentrated. From my research on the net, it seems that tonsil stones sound exactly like what I'm suffering from. However, I can't seem to find anything on the net about people without tonsils having this problem.

Does anybody out there have any suggestions for me?

Thanks,
Haggis
