Pain behind ear - Ear, Nose & Throat Message Board

The other day i noticed that when i opened my mouth i got pain in the joint of my jaw. Now I have pain all the way down the back of my ear. It starts at the top and goes down to just below my chin. Even turning my neck makes it hurt, its also quiet swollen and is painful to touch. Should I leave it or make and appointment for a doctor?

Whenever you are in doubt get it checked out. A physical examination by a trained MD is always the best way to get a educated answer. The MD will be able to see and speculate better than anyone here. I had a dislocated jaw once... not TMJ related, kicked in the face in the pool...Ouch!... that had a similar effect but on both sides.
