Re: Tonsilectomy On Friday .....

It'll be a couple of weeks before you feel like yourself...be sure and ask for the numbing gel gargle...it worked wonders for me.

Re: Tonsilectomy On Friday .....

sam17fromwales,

You will do fine. I had a double whammy of sinus surgery, alongside my T&A. I am also 31. I won't lie, there will be a day or two you just want to cry... you will be frustrated and just want it to be over, but you are young and two weeks of hades now in trade for a increased quality of life for the rest of your life will be worth it.

Most common pain recommendations:
Oticaine otic ear drops - for ear pain durring the descabbing process.

2% viscous lydocaine gargle. Do not gargle with it.. dilute if necessary and hold it against the back of your throat for a minute then spit it out.. DO NOT Swallow. This is lydocaine based.. but topical and can be used as needed.

Keep up with your pain med's by the clock.

Drink lots and lots of ice water, rest, relax, and watch a lot of TV. My brother had his out when he was 16, versus mine at 31 and my mom's 33. His was much easier than ours, and he can not stand pain.

Read LisaMP's guide... and keep a running thread. We will offer what advice we can.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.

Sincerely,
MG

Re: Tonsilectomy On Friday .....

Hey Sam. I get my tonsils out on Friday too, and I'm 34 and scared to death. So I guess we get to go through this together. Good luck to you, and I'll be checking on you, so let us know how you're doing.

Re: Tonsilectomy On Friday .....

Hey, even though you might have checked out my thread. I do not regret taking them out, allready I have stopped snorring, and I have been snorring since I was 4 years old. Its unbelievable how much better I can allready breathe. So yeah, although you will feel at times like giving up, suck it up... at the end its worth it.

Good luck to you all, and drink as much water as you possibly can! Stock up on White and Cantaloupe Mr Freezes............ and the more you sleep (if you can) the less pain you feel.... the sooner you get to chewing foods, the sooner the scabs start to fall off...I am just learning that now...although its painfull, it speeds things up.

Good Luck!
