| Re: difficulty swallowing/lump in throat PLEASE HELP
You have two of the hallmarks of laryngopharyngeal reflux - acid reflux that is escaping your esophogous and getting into your throat. The sensation of lump in the throat in a classic, and the cracking voice is the acid attacking your vocal cords.
It tends to be a chronic condition, but it's treatable with 2 doses of a Proton Pump inhibitor every day. You need the best ones, like Nexium or Aciphex, and 2 doses is the magic touch. 1 dose does not work for "LPR".
You can find a lot of sympathy on the Acid Reflux Message Board. And BTW, people who get LPR typically do not get heartburn. LPR is a class by itself, a subtype of typical acid reflux. I guess that's why they call it "atypical" acid reflux.
