questions to ask dr post tonsillectomy appt - Ear, Nose & Throat Message Board

hi, i have my follow up appt on saturday with my ent post tonsillectomy.
i am wondering what they do during this appt? do they just look in your throat? or do they spray anything, or look further down your throat? just curious.

also, is there any important questions that should be brought up then.
is it normal to have just one follow up appt with the ent for tonsillectomy?
or do you usually have a second followup weeks later?

i know, kind of vague questions, i just want to be prepared.

My ENT just looked into my throat said, yep you are bleeding. Packed my wound sites with Barium, confirmed my thrush.. gave me a shot in the... backside (steriodal) for swelling and pain. Nope to the spray or exploratory procedures.

What should your physical limits be.. athletic activity, etc.

Follow-Ups:
I had appointments at 7 days po 21 days po and 3 month po for TA and sinus recovery check, and I was set up for a six month follow up for my final sinus check up this tuesday after my 3 month check up.

Did I answer everything? Each ENT may be slightly different.

My appointment was 4 weeks after surgery -- went back to work after 2. ENT looked down my throat, said there was still a scab or two. Asked if I had any hobbies, like playing tennis and said I could resume regular activities, working out , etc. again.

I was curious about the conditions of my tonsils when he removed them, so I asked for all the gory details. He told me that the one on the right side was huge, golf ball sized and full of infection -- full of nasty white curds. Darn, I wish I'd gotten a video tape. Would've been cool to see

My follow-up was 2 weeks post-op. The ENT looked in my throat, saw a clot, and started doing this suction machine on it to pull it loose. I almost barfed on him...so he sprayed some numbing spray back there which made me want to barf more. Then he took these things that looked like match sticks and applied them to the area. He said it was a...??..chemical cauterization?? Then he had me swish with cold water. I had to sit there for about 20 minutes to make sure there was no bleeding. Oh, the match stick things left a horrible taste.
Aside from that, everything healed up nicely and he said he didn't need to see me unless there was a problem, which there hasn't been.
