My nose mucus membrane is always swollen!

Hello,

I have terrible problems with my nose mucus membrane. It is always swollen, mucous is very dry and never flows out. Therefore I have pains in the eyes (sleepy all the time), cheek bones and jaw bones. Also, my face is swollen.

1986, I was in Clinic for ORL, and have got 5 diagnosis. Three of them are:
1.Septum deviatio (operation, 1990 - after that more pains);
2.Sinusitis maxill.chr.cath.
3.Rhinitis chr.hypertr. et sicca anter.
Because nobody did help me, I have sent this diagnosis to the hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. They wrote to me, I have to find the cause for this pains. Since 1989 I am searching the cause, was by all specialists. Classic and traditional medecine.
They found another diagnosis: Gastritis chr.,Hypotireosis, Enthesopatia levator scapula, N.suprascapularis, N.occipitalis, as also atypical trigeminal Neuralgia. I must say, that all my pains are on the right side: from right eye over occipitalis, shoulder muscle untill right shoulder joint, where is benign tumour. Doctors can't find cause for that, and can't operate.
Many years ago, I was by Neurologist in Germany. He gave me injection between neck and right shoulder. My pains were over in 10 minutes. Diagnosis was: Trigeminal N. It was good for five years.
I have made all medical examinations: Head CT (Atrophy), Head MR (Vein 10x11mm), sinusitis CT (Haller's cell) and many other.
Some doctors say, it is all from neck and shoulder muscle; some, it is from stomache; other, it is from N.suprascapularis. In fact, this pains are Reflex pains. But, from where is mucous? I have also few small cysts on the right liver.
I have tried suicide more times because of that. I can't live like that. Don't work since May 2001, altough I speak fluent German, French, Serbo-Croatian and a bit Spanish. Was in tourism over 23 years.

Who can help me, or give some advice, what to do?

Ms. Natasha, Slovenia

Re: My nose mucus membrane is always swollen!

I am having the same problem for the last 4/5 months. No congestion, no mucous. Just tissue swelling up in my nose. And the feeling of dryness. The swelling is so bad, It makes me feel like my whole inside of my head is swollen. I get really woozy headed, and my face and underneath my eyes are swollen. It makes it really hard to drive because I cant see right. I have been on 5 rounds of steroids and 3 rounds of antibiotics. I have seen 2 ENTs and had 2 CT scans which showed all clear. I will be seeing a University doctor today to get his opinion. Have you been dealing with this a long time? Have you tried any of the nose sprays? I can tell you that using the Astylline nose spray has helped some of my eye swelling enough that I can finally drive on the back roads. But It dries my eyes out and I can only use it at night because it makes me sleepy. I know it probably dries my nose out more, but what else are we supposed to do? I was on Nasacort for 4 months and my eyes were swollen the whole time, Ive been off it over a week now and now it seems the swelling in my eyelids have gone down. I dont think it was helping much. I will ask the ENT today about taking cultures to see If I have a fungal infection since I was on many antibiotics prior to this whole sinus flair up. I hope you are feeling better.

I have this same problem. One of my nostrils appears to be read and swollen inside. Yet I do not have a stuffy nose, just a bit of a nasally voice and some trouble breathing when I sleep. Could this be a deviated septum? It's just one nostril, not the other one.

Re: My nose mucus membrane is always swollen!

Hello fluffyv and loralei,

About sprays I have used them for long time and it is worse than before. From the simple reason my mucus membrane is drier.

To me help drugs with hydrochloride. I don't know why and nobody else knows.
Beside that all kind of the warmth: sunbath, red lamp, fango.

If you can, try to ask your doctor about Ganglion Stellatum (in the neck). It could be cause for bad circulation in the nose membrane.
There is also Thyroid (I have hypotireosis), that makes dry mucus membrane.

To me doctors say that my neck muscles are cause for all pains in the face: sinusitis, rhinitis and atypical neuralgia trigeminal. I had sometime injury of muscle levator scapula (I don't know for that).

Wish you better health,
