So I have been having on and off sinus problems since around October. I went to the doctor then and he gave me azithromax, it didnt help..a few weeks later it was back . Then a month later got a prescribtion for amoxicillin. Didnt work. I went to the doctor a few months later for bronchitis got a medication that was suppose to help both, and it did not help the sinus problems. They just go and come back. Especially when the weather changes. The past few weeks my sinus problems were gone cause the weather was finally getting nice, but now that it is cold again I stopped draining and am all stuffed up . I called the doctor back and he has scheduled me to go to a ENT in 2 weeks. And have a CT scan next week. Right now I am taking tylenol sinus for the pain. But I have a weird question. I was reading about sinus infections and I read there are serious complications from it that I never knew of. I did not know that it can get into your brain and be life threatening. And Im not sure if the sites I were reading about that are talking about meningitis or not, since I know that can rarely be caused by sinusitis. Its just now that I read that I am scared. I know all those complications are rare but I am still worried. I have a little bit of anixety so its making be freak out. Another thing..does anyone else get bad neck and shoulder pain from sinus problems? HELPPPPPPPPPP so worried.
katy092, try not to freak out too much about what is going on. A lot of people, including myself suffer from the same symptoms/problems that you are experiencing. My neck and shoulders get very stiff when my sinus problems act up. I go to a chiropractor once every 2 weeks and that seems to help. CT Scans are always a good idea to rule out any serious problems.
You seem to be at the beginning stages of the same path I've been travelling for over a year now. No medications seem to work for me and I've been to all kinds of doctors. Thankfully some of the people in this forum suggested new possible explainations of my symptoms including non-allergic rhinitis as well as possible sleep disorder.
Try to stay calm and don't let your anxiety rule you. You are in control, not the anxiety. I too have suffered from anxiety due to my sinus problems. Also, don't always take what the ENT says as gospel. If you are not happy with their diagnosis, go see another ENT.
If you want to, you can check out my post to see what other members have suggested. Stay strong and good luck. We all need it.
Sinus infection getting in the brain.. well it can happen if left uncheck for long.. long ... long periods of time.
I lived what you are living for over almost every year of my 31 years. Bacterial sinus infection if unchecked begin to eat away, or wear away the sinus cavity bones. You have been keeping yours in check with anti-biotics it seems.
The CT scan will most likely confirm you have chronic sinusittus. They can see where the bone is being worn down and thus know where you are having infection flare ups the most. Going to an ENT for all your sinus ills is the thing to do.. they are going to treat it right the first time if they are worth there salt.. and then perform whatever corrective surgery is necessary to fix the problem.. versus just treating the symptoms.
You have nothing to worry about, have faith in you ENT.. if you question them.. get a second opinion.
Best of Luck to you.
If we learn by our mistakes, I am working on one hell of an education.
