Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if they have ever taken Minocyclin for a sore throat. I am allergic to Pennicillin so I have a problem with antibiotics,some just don't work for me. I did have tetracyclin in the hospital with pneumonia and it worked great, It's just hard to get a straight answer from a pharmacist and the doctors just don't seem to know. If someone can help,I really would appreciate it.

Those two drugs are in the same class and the one you are on covers a larger spectrum so in other words is considered stronger. I am also allergic to penicillin as well as sulfa drugs so I mostly take things like Zithromax when I am ill. Levaquin has also been useful.

Never taken an anti-biotic for just a sore throat. I take them only for confirmed bacteria infections.

How can you confirm the infection? Blood work or a culture... Blood work is quicker than a growth culture.

Cillans
Erythromycins, Biaxin..
Sulfa,

I can take cephelasporns and tetracyclines. I needed my drugs until I corrected the source of my problems with a full ENT roto-rooter of my head and throat.
