Please help, I am so miserable due to this condition I am losing hope.
It all started this January, about 4 months ago when i started experiencing really bad tasting post nasal drip. It hung around for about a week and so I saw a Dr and he suspected mild sinus infection so i was given amoxil. Within 2 days the symptoms cleared. However about 2 weeks later the symptoms came back and have been suffering from it since. The bad taste has subsided but the POST NASAL DRIP is still here non stop. Ive been to 3 ENT, have done 2 CT scans and shows nothing. Since Jan I have been on about 6 antibiotics: amoxil, zinnat for 2 wks, eryc for 25days, amoxil again and now on Rulide for 3 months but with no improvement. My tongue always feels fury and there is a bad taste in mouth all the time. It effects my breath so much that I have become anti social, I dont see my friends anymore and I am really uncomfortable seeing my boyfriend cos I know he can smell/taste my bad breath. I am so depressed due to it that I am now seeing a psychologist. I have done a blood test for general allergies but results were negative. I have tried Neilmed sinus rinse, NASONEX for 2 months, BECONASE for 2 wks with no improvement. What could be causing this? I have never had a sinus problem before this and its ruining my life. PLease please help me. I am willing to pay 1000dollars to the person who can cure this. I am so desperate. Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Hi Art84 I honestly don't have any idea what could be causing your sinus troubles, but I just wanted to tell you to keep your chin up. I know how hard it is to be sick and nobody being able to find out what is wrong with you. It interferes in your life and if it's gone on long enough, can lead to pretty severe depression and anxiety. I was sick to my stomach for a year, unable to eat much of anything, throwing up blood on occasion. It took doctors a year before finding out the cause was my gallbladder. Feeling sick for so long can take a major toll on you, and not finding a doctor who knows what is going on makes it even worse. Just don't give up hope! There is someone out there who knows your answer! I don't know if you have tried cutting out all dairy foods or not, but those foods do tend to make a body produce more mucus, and that might be contributing to your problem. It seems that you've tried so many things, but if you havn't tried this one, maybe it could help. Also, have you checked your tonsils? Sometimes they get pitted and food gets caught in them and causes small infections that tend to smell really bad. I'm no doctor, but I just felt like you could use some reassurance. Good luck to you!
Something is causing ongoing irritation to your mucous membranes. Could include, smoke (cigarette, or environmental) pollen or dust. check your surroundings. Is it dry and dusty? Are there emissions of any sort (machinery, engines)? Does anyone round you smoke? Have you changed workplaces, airconditioning working OK? any of these things can set up an irritation that can mimic allergies and infection. Do you have much dairy products. Avoid those, they increase mucus production big-time. I hope you find the cause, it is miserable to have this all the time. Good luck, Sera
Surgically if you can not get away from the irritants look into bilateral turboplasty.. to reduce the quantity of membrane being irritated. Six sinus infections in a year makes you a viable surgical candidate in the US. I am not sure of the medical system in Australia, but have experience with the NHS of England.
Try taking an anti-histamine an see if that helps you. You need to give it at least two weeks because the anti-histamine has to build up in your system to reach peek effectiveness.. Also look into a nasal spray like Nasonex or Astelin(sp) These cover pollutant/irritant responses as well as allergic responses.
You may need to check with an allergist.. also next ENT you visit ask about the possiblity of membrane reduction in your major sinuses.
Sincerely,
MG

Thankyou for your replies. Yes I have eliminated dairy from my diet. I am almost a vegan now and nothing has changed...but i will discuss the membrane reduction surgery next time i see my ENT. And i have an appointment with an allergist next week so hopefully he can tell me something. Thanks again for all your suggestions.
