| Re: some liquids come out of the nose after Tonsillectomy
Yes very normal. This is due to the uvula an pallet having to strengthen and cover the increased gap at the back of the throat when swallowing. It will take two to three months for the pallet and uvula to begin closing completely back there again. Until this occurs minimize eating and drinking in anything other than a vertical position. Water fountain, bent over at the waist, drinking will cause the water to come out their nose almost immedaitely every time. Make sure when they are swallowing their head is up right.
My son at 3.5 thought it was cool to shoot water out of his nose for a month or two. I had sinus surgery when I had my T&A. Water in the sinuses was not cool.. and quite painful instead. So yes. Keep saline salution handy, just incase something other than water gets ejected from the nose. Soup and stew.. not pleasant. Avoid all stomach illnesses like the plague. Vomiting is not desired at this time.. or any other time.
Sincerely,
MG
