sudden onset of nose dripping constantly--lasting 24 hrs. (frequently)

Please help! My sister (upper 80's) has developed a condition that is really making her miserable! This happens almost weekly, and it's when she goes anywhere---beauty shop, grocery store, drugstore, out to eat, etc. We've tried to pinpoint if it's what she eats, or hairsprays or gels etc. She doesn't get it everytime she gets her hair done, nor everytime she goes grocery shopping or out to dinner with family. However, it happens enough to ruin her few times out and the rest of the day. She tries Claritin, Benydryl, etc. and nothing stops the steady flow of water from the nose. She has to go to bed and sometimes puts a cloth under her head so her pillow doesn't get wet!
What could this be? The next day, she's fine, but with a sore nose.

She's getting to the point she hate to go out for fear of this happening!
