| Re: Can I fly with an ear infection?
Make sure that you are on antibiotics.. normally you should get some relief in 48-72 hours. Also get on some strong decongestant as well. Most people get pressure shift ear popping in the ears during flight. An untreated ear infection can cause extreme pain and ruptured ear membranes (Did this when I was in 4th grade.. it was worse than childbirth.. and my son's birth put me in the hospital for a month). You can fly with an infection but it is going to hurt.
Are you on medication for it? Do you have allergies?
Main things to get gunk out of the sinuses and thus ears quickly:
1) Antibiotics
2) Decongestant
3) pH balanced Saline (Pretz), steriodal(Nasonex), and antihistamine/decongestant (Astelin) nasal sprays
4) Drink lots of water and continually sip water on the plane
Antibiotics should have an effect within 48-72 hours. If no relief is felt you may need a different antibiotic or to test and be sure it isn't fungal in nature.
Good luck.
