Need help: Small, yellow bump/ball inside nose

Hi there,

I have had a small, hard, yellow bump or ball inside my nose on the nasal spine (which I can see if I open my nostrils and pull it back a little) for about a month now. At first I was ignoring it because I thought it would go away on its own. It started right after a very bad cold I had. It's also not extremely inconvenient because my breathing is fine and it only hurts a bit if I try to squeeze it. However, it has not gone away on its own and I am getting worried that it might be cancer or something!

The reason why I haven't gone to see a doctor yet is because I simply don't have time due to a hectic work and class schedule which leaves me no time for anything except late at night (university student full-time as well as work full-time). So, I decided to search online but I haven't been able to find any answers. I spoke to one of my co-workers about it and she told me that her grandson tends to get it due to blowing his nose a lot. That sounds like it could be right but I don't even over-do-it when it comes to nose blowing. Also, she told me to get a q-tip and put some neosporin on it and it should go away as she has seen happen to her grandson. I would do that but the problem is that I don't even know if that's something that I should do. I have no idea what it could be, what caused it or how to get rid of it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd wait until the summer when I have time to go see a doctor but I don't know if it's something that I should be worrying a lot about.

Thank you very much in advance,

Rose

Re: Need help: Small, yellow bump/ball inside nose

is it sore? I dont' think neosporin would hurt. Don't put too much up there. How far up is it? Wonder if a warm compress would help? I've never had one but it could be a polyp?

You really need to take out an hour or so for the doc. What good will your hectic school/work schedule be if you are really sick and can't do either?

good luck

Hi Dolysods,

Thank you so much for replying! It's not far up at all, it's close enough for me to see it when I pull my nostrils back a bit but it can't be seen without doing that so it's not on the surface. I looked into nasal polyp and it might be that. =/

Regarding my doctor, I called her to see if I could go into her office today (one of my classes was canceled) but she was not there. I did speak to one of her nurses and she said it might be a nasal cyst and all it would probably require are antibiotics. I hope I can go see her soon sometime but with my life, I'm not too sure.

Again, thank you very much for replying. I really appreciate it. Have a blessed weekend.

Re: Need help: Small, yellow bump/ball inside nose

The chances of it being a polyp are pretty much zero.

Polyps form way up in your sinus cavities and are fluid-filled sacs in the mucus membranes that line the sinuses. For it to be visible without an endoscope the polyp would have to be large enough to have filled part of your sinus cavity and be protruding into your nostril, in which case your breathing wouldn't be fine, you'd be very congested.

I'm not sure what you've got going on but no need to worry about it being a polyp.
