Tonsillectomy. going number 2? when can I drink Alcohol? - Ear, Nose & Throat Message Board

Hey all,

I'm on day 7/8 of my healing after my Tonsillectomy which was on April 25th, 2008. I'm not sure to count the day of surgery or not haha.

I am actually in the middle of finals here at school, it's terrible taking Finals while on narcotics.

My question's are: 1. How long did it take some of you others out there to go "number 2?" I haven't gone since last Friday the day of my surgery, and I really want to go, but can't.

2. I'm traveling to Arizona next Tuesday to stay with my girlfriend at her sorority, and to help her move out of school for the summer. When can I start to drink alcohol again? I mean, i won't be taking shots, but will Beer sting or will that be ok as long as i'm not taking any more narcotics with it.

The pain meds. make you constipated and you may need to stake a stool softener or Benefiber, something like that.

Don't drink beer, the bubbles will hurt and even wine was a little harsh on my throat (I had 1 glass on day 10). The other day I had a rum drink with fruit juice and that was very good (day 12).

Be careful lifting anything heavy and you should ask your dr. because you risk bleeding if you strain. That goes for #2 also.

so you said beer hurts?...dang!

i'm on day..8 right now i guess, not sure whether to count the day of surgery or not. so 8/9. Do you count the day of surgery? haha

um i guess i'll take it as I go, but your right, if i do HEAVY lifting that could be bad, i'll make sure it's just small boxes and i take more trips.

Can Anyone tell me what days 8-11 are end up being like? i'm on day 8 now..i can talk, but it still stings to swallow and stuff. does that mean my scabs are coming off? yesterday I was drinking soup..it was fine until about half way through...it started to sting on my left side. does that mean that scab came off part way through the soup?

Just got back from taking a Differential Equations Final on Percocet...good times

I couldn't go number 2 for almost a week. I had surgery last Monday and didn't go until the following Sunday. I hadn't eaten much food at all, but I was feeling constipated. I took a half dose of laxitive and was able to go again a few hours later and now I am ok. I would stay away from alcohol for a while, especially if you are still on any pain meds. I am on day 8 also and my scabs started coming off last night. The stinging is exactly how I describe the feeling of them coming off. They were covering a sensitive area that is now exposed. I just keep drinking large amounts of freezing cold water and pain meds every 2 hours.

feeling pretty good now. I'm actually at my girlfriends college at NAU right now in flagstaff visiting haha. you're in yuma?

I had a double cheese burger today and fries...slowly but i ate it all with a soda

off all the narcotics now, taking tylanol about every 5 hours or so

I really want to go workout or go for a jog. i've never gone this many days without working out
