| sudden neural hearing loss
Just wanted to inform anyone who ever has sudden hearing loss. About 1year ago my ear felt like it were blocked with wax. I went to my family doctor and he flushed some wax out but my hearing was not back. He suggested a ENT Dr. which I went to immediately. After a hearing test which I did very bad at on my left ear, they told me I have sudden neural hearing loss. I also had an MRI which was good. They suggested I go to a bigger city Dr. which I got an appt. within a day or two. There could have been a chance that I would not get my hearing back and there was no cure. How depressing!! I cried alot. The specialist told me that they don't know what causes this problem and there was a study going on with a series of 3 steroid shots in the eardrum, i think they were like 2 wks apart. The chances of me hearing out of my left ear were not guaranteed. What else did I have to loose, so I did it. I got the first shot and a few days after that I was beginning to hear again. I wasn't able to hear a dial tone in the phone at all and that is how I kept testing my ear. I finally heard a slight tone and each day it got better. I still went for shot 2 and 3 and my hearing is back to normal. I went for my yearly check-up and everything was good. Dr. said quick re-action is what he thinks makes a better chance of hearing again.
