Nose leaking clear fluid

Very spontaneously, my nose will drip clear fluid like a faucet after bending over. Its not alot of fluid maybe only 5 or 6 drips Does anyone have a clue what is happening??? It has happened to me on 3-4 occasions within a year.
thanks

Re: Nose leaking clear fluid

Have you seen an ENT doc? A change in blood pressure (bending over) can cause, or increase, runny nose and/or sinus pain.

Have you ever had sinusitis?

Re: Nose leaking clear fluid

I assume you're not doing any kind of sinus irrigation or using any type of nose sprays?

If you're not, you should see an otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist).

It's probably nothing more than thin mucus but there's a tiny chance it could be a Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak. They're very rare, usually occur after someone's had some type of head injury or trauma, and usually they resolve on their own, but if they're not treated there's a chance the leak can become more serious.

Re: Nose leaking clear fluid

No I do not use any irrigations or sprays. It has happened to me after bending upside down to put my hair in a towel after a shower. It also happened to me the other day just sitting up. It does not happen that often, like I said maybe 3 times within a year. I've never had a head trauma or surgery. I do suffer from allergies and post nasal drip daily. I'm very worried I have a Cerebral fluid leak now.....

Re: Nose leaking clear fluid

If you haven't had any kind of head trauma or past surgery then it's probably allergy related - just very thin, clear mucus. It might be worth making an appointment with an ENT just to be safe but spontaneous CSF leaks are EXTREMELY rare.

Re: Nose leaking clear fluid

And CSF leaks happen suddenly, at any time. Your's seem connected to BP changes (standing up, bending over), this is common with sinus problems.

Re: Nose leaking clear fluid

Thanks,
My neighbor across the street is an ENT but I have yet to speak to him about this. I hate to bother him at home. I did send him an email about it and he repsonded to get in touch with him at home sometime so we can talk about it. He told me there are a bunch of questions he will have to ask me to figure it out. I just couldn't wait for an answer from him, I was slowly freaking out here wondering.
Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Re: Nose leaking clear fluid

This happens to me too. I've had four sinus surgeries to remove polyps now. My ENT says it's a normal part of my sinus problems, which are due to unexplained inflammation.
