Re: how to get rid of mucus after tonsillectomy
I hope this is helpful for you. I have had problems with nasal congestion all of my life, ironically right up until my tonsillectomy/pharyngoplasty. I had been using a NeilMed nasal irrigation bottle before surgery with a homemade solution of 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp baking soda to 8 ounces water.
You need to be careful not to be vigorous doing this, but if you gently irrigate the nostrils you will find the mucus thins out and loosens and you can then get it moving. I also used cooler water than normal, because I did not want to start any bleeding. It help loosen up the couple of crusties that I did have. I am on POD 9 and no bleeding yet, kow.
