Itchy ear and pain

I have been have pain in my left ear and it has been very itchy for the last 3 weeks, I have been to the ENT which he gave me some Ciprodex otic drops 2 weeks ago for the swimmer ear infection, my ear calm down about a week and then got worser again with the itch and the pain. So I went back to the ENT this week he told me I had a cyst by the ear drum, which he bust the cyst and took a culture of the fluid, so at this time I am waiting on the culture and I am still dealing with the itch. So he told me to stay on the drops. Now I ask him could I have an yeast infection in my ear because, my itch is so itchy if anyone could help me, please do.

Re: Itchy ear and pain

it sounds like yeast to me. I currently have an outer ear infection which is likely bacterial. I am on ciprodex drops. My ear is all pain not itchy. the problem is that I read that ciprodex can make yeast worse because it kills all the good bacteria too which fights yeast. So maybe you need a different antifungal treatment rather than antibacterial. good luck

I got my culture back from the ENT no bacterial and no yeast but I have been trying flushing my ear out with peroxide and water half and half and it has been doing so much better so I have my next appt. with the ENT 8-11-09, I will see what happen then. Thanks

Re: Itchy ear and pain

I have eczema in my ear canal that itches like crazy. Up to now, my specialists have said there is really nothing I can do for it.

I was at an ENT appt. with my mom a few weeks ago. This ENT gave her DermOtic Oil (fluocinolone acetonide oil) .01%. It is made for itchy ears specifically. It is intended for itching, dryness, redness and flaking in the ears. Might be worth asking about.

I haven't had a follow-up appointment with my own doctor yet, but I'll be asking to try it when I do.
