I've been reading in recent articles that tonsillotomy is preferable for children with obstructive sleep apnea due to the faster recovery rate (2-3 days), lower risk of infection, and much less pain. The data about long term satisfaction rates and tonsil regrowth stats are pretty new. Most of the studies are from last year. They all support the use of partial tonsillectomies. However, I've only been able to find one doctor in NC that does these procedures.

I'm waiting for a call back from their office. I have a feeling my insurance isn't going to pay for my 6 year-old daughter to have a tonsillotomy, but I'm anxious to find out. Has anyone here had experience with laser or radiofrequency tonsillotomy where part of the tonsil is left in place?
Thanks,
Jen
