Septoplasty

Hi,

I have had a blocked nose for some time and have been diagnoised after visiting an ENT consultant with a diverted Spetum. He had recommended a procedure called Septoplasty and I was wondering what other peoples experinences of the procedure are and if it worked?.

Thanks in advance for replying.

Re: Septoplasty

I had a Septoplasty and it helped for about 1 year or less.
Then everything went back to crap.
In fact, I've had TWO sinus surgeries. They just are not a lasting solution for most people like us. Also VERY expensive and somewhat dangerous.
I'd try nasal lavage and everything else (pills, sprays, etc) first.

Re: Septoplasty

Well I went under the knife yesterday for my Septoplasty and can say it was relatively painless.

Couple of really annoying things, first being my nose is totally blocked and bleeding which is to be expected.

Secondly I have a really sore throat from where they put the air tube down during the operation but I guess that will clear in a couple of days.

The worst thing though is because you have to breath threw your mouth it gets really dry at night and i would it really difficult to sleel last night ie only had three hours.

Apart from that feeling really good after 1 day.

Re: Septoplasty

Day 6 post op. Still cannot breathe through my nose at all, just feels like I have severe head cold. I have face pain but meds take care of that.

Highlight so far will be tomorrow when I can blow my nose so hopefully will be able to start clearing some of the crap out.

Update soon

Day 8 post op. Still cannot breathe through my nose at all, just feels like I have severe head cold. I have face pain but meds take care of that.

Blowing my nose has not helped, just got to wait for the swelling to go down

There must be people on this forum that have been through this that could offer some advice?.

Re: Septoplasty

Day 17 I can finally breath through my nose although not perfectly yet. See the consultant on Saturday for my follow up and hopefully everything will be back to nearly normal by then.
