Ear Pain Dental Work

Hello,

I have been suffering from ear pain and pressure for the past 6 weeks. I had a large filling replaced with a crown. The moment I left the appointment I had horrible ear discomfort as well as tooth discomfort. The tooth ended up not settling down and I had a root canal 1 week ago. I was very hopeful that the ear pain would disapear when I had the root canal but it has not. Even now the tooth still hurts to bite on (and no it is not a high crown) and the annoying, awful ear pain/fullness is still there. I am at a total loss. I have had the heartbeat type of tinitus in the same left ear for a while and don't know if that is related. I just want to live ear pain free. It is way more bothersome then the tooth pain. Anyone have any ideas????

Marie

Re: Ear Pain Dental Work

You might want to check out the TMJ message board.

I found out last year that ear pain I have had for a while was caused by TMJ. My lower jaw was pushing back on my ear. The jaw and inner ear are extremely close physically.

The dental work and keeping your mouth open could have thrown things off. Also, if the bite changes, it can cause TMJ problems as well. There are good strategies on the TMJ board to help.

One of my most useful was getting a TMJ trigger point massage.
