I had my first ENT appointment last week after having a month of sore throats and he prescribed me Prednisone. Why would an ENT prescribe this?
By the way, the sore throat ironically went away (finally) over the weekend, but I have had large tonsils since I was a kid and I snore. The ENT mentioned several times how I have large tonsils and a very narrow airway (he did a nose scope). He is also concerned about sleep apnea.
Prednisone is an anti-inflammatory medication that will help to shrink your tonsils and open up your narrow airway. It's commonly prescribed if the ENT sees some evidence of inflammation in your nose or throat.
