Protruding bulge in pharynx

Hi everyone. I'm a 24 year old male from Finland. I've had a problem with health anxiety ever since I discovered the internet :P so I tend to obsess about seemingly harmless bodily symptoms, and lately (last few months) I have discovered something new to be paranoid about.

A few months ago I got the bright idea to probe my tonsils to see if they were enlarged, and that's when I felt this bony hard protrusion right behind the uvula and directly in the nasal opening in the back of the mouth. It feels smooth and symmetrical, and is right in the middle in the top of the pharynx.

Obviously I freaked out and immediately called my doctor, who sent me to a dentist. The dentist kept checking the back of my throat and said they didn't see anything unusual, but obviously I convinced myself that she simply didn't spot the bulge.

Is this a part of the normal anatomy of the mouth? Can anyone else feel a similar bulge? Any feedbeck would be most appreciated.

Re: Protruding bulge in pharynx

I had my doctor check down in my throat and at my vocal cords with a mirror due to some annoying throat tightness issues lately, and she didn't comment on there being anything out of the ordinary at the back of my throat.

Of course it never hurts to be on the safe side.

Re: Protruding bulge in pharynx

Thank you for the reply.

I too have throat tightness and difficulty swallowing, i wonder if this bulge could be the cause?

It is not visible when i open my mouth, only when i lift my uvula i can see it.

I have come to the conclusion that its not normal and seems to be some sort of bone spur from my vertebre.

I just hope it doesnt get any bigger or cause any more difficulites.
