Advice re pearly white lesion on ear
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help reassure me re my ongoing hearing problem. I have had a sensorineural hearing loss for about 15 years now and have worn hearing aids in both ears for about 10 years - it is considered a serious loss. About 6 weeks ago I was fitted with new hearing aid moulds which appear to have caused an irritation/infection ... after a couple of days of a swollen ear canal I woke up and had absolutely no hearing in my right ear -v scary and called to see emergency doc immediately - he said not to worry gave me drops and antibios & said should be better within couple of days - as there was no change couple of days later went to locum GP who advised different antibio which I had adverse reaction to & went back to original ineffective antibio- she said she could see white patch at bottom of eardrum & took general swab - she also used same scope to look in left ear which at this point was fine but lo & behold 2 days later started to flare up too. In meantime right ear swelling has gone right down was now on 3rd course of antibios & some antifungal drugs. Within 2 days of completing 3rd course of antibios my ears were flaring up again & at weekend I woke up and could not hear a thing whatsoever... really scary when I put my hearing aid in (which was v painful) I did have some sound. At docs again yest and she said right eardrum now looks all white and thick and abnormal & left mildly inflamed with red spots- last night my husband said he could see a pearly white lesion on middle of left ear drum. I am sooo worried this is going to be permanent - I need to preserve the little hearing I have and don't have an appointment with an ENT specialist until next week... Can anyone offer any advice on this condition - my ear canals seem to be more blocked in morning but improve throughout morning allowing very low level sound...they are mildly painful when touched on mastoid bone or manouevred about... sorry so war & peace but any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks if you have got this far x
