Hello, new to this forum.
Last June I had a bad head cold, and after a few weeks it went away. But then it changed to a lingering post-nasal drip that won't go away.
I went to the doctor, and he diagnosed me with allergic rhinitis. I have never had PND prior to this cold, so am puzzled. If this is really an allergy, then why is this the first time experiencing these symptoms?
During the cold in June, I took Sudafed PE and Nyquil for about a week and blew my nose pretty violently. I'm wondering if instead my nasal membranes are permanently swollen, however if this were true the doc
would have seen it
Since then, I have had constant PND in the form of a thin, runny discharge in the back of my throat. Strangely, my nasal passages are clear, but I always feel the need to blow my nose, even though it is not runny near the nostrils, but there is crap "back there".
Things I have tried:
-Neti Pot (cleans temporarily but after a few minutes the drainage comes right back)
-Claritin, not D (side effects, severe insomnia though it seemed to relieve the PND)
-Vitamin C, 2000 mg (worked 1st day but no effect thereafter)
-Sinusin (no help)
-Sudafed PE (relieved PND but scared to use long-term due to risk of rebound congestion)
-Avoided wheat, dairy (no noticeable difference, though PND is generally worse after eating)
I have not tried Flonase because I've heard bad things about it (does it damage the cilia in the nose in the long-term, and can it affect sense of smell?)
Post-nasal drip is extremely annoying, and my heart goes out to anyone else that suffers from it. It seems there is no cure.
Can anyone relate? If so, how do you cope?
