Question Something in throat causing food, pills, etc.. to get stuck. Saw an ENT.

My issues started 3 months ago. First it was that small pills would get stuck in my throat. Then it progressed to them getting stuck all the time and food getting stuck. Spaghetti is the worst, but now it's lettuce, or anything small enough. I have to take my medication with a few other pills to help it go down. Now it feels like there is something in my throat all the time.

Today I went to an ENT. They want to do a throat study. So Thursday I go in for the yummy barium drink so they can watch how it goes down my throat.

The Dr. told me it could be scar tissue, a hole, even bone spurs from my neck poking into my throat due to my severe degenerative arthritis in my neck.

It's not my tonsils. It's down down about mid throat from what I can tell. Quite irritating.

Can someone please tell me a range of all the possibilities of what my issue could be and what the treatments are? I want to be prepared for anything. Dr's don't always talk straight with you so you don't get worried, but I'm not a worrier necessarily, I'm one that wants to be prepared for future issues.

Hello Cynthia,

That sounds terrible. I don't know exactly what's going on. I've had similar issues with getting pills stuck in my throat. Mine all started after my UPPP surgery for sleep apnea. I just wanted you to know that I feel your pain. If I eat anything crunchy or rigid like Capn Crunch cereal or granola, that gets stuck in my throat also.

Its difficult for me because I get extreme anxiety with mine even if its the slightest thing caught in my throat which in itself is dreadfully difficult to deal with.
