Tonsillectomy - Day 6
I had my tonsils out last Wednesday, and so far it hadn't been as bad as I'd expected until last night when I started spitting out blood. I looked at the back of my throat and could see a blood clot where the white scab had been. I went to a&e and they gave me some hydrogen peroxide to gargle with but by this time the bleeding had already stopped. Is there anything I can do to prevent bleeding again?! I've been constantly drinking water since my operation and eating as normally as possible. I found that the pain is slightly better today - day four and five were unbearable!

Ice or ice water helps - both eating ice (I would let it sit at the back of my throat as long as I could before completely swallowing it) and putting an ice pack on your neck will help with bleeding and pain. Many times, doctors will tell you to try to stop the bleeding with ice before going back in for surgery. I'm sorry you had the bleeding scare! Hopefully you will be feeling lots better soon!!
