Post nasal drip and chronic sinus infections for over 10 years..HELP!

You guys are my last hope... i have been to countless ENT's and loads of other specialists for other symptoms. Have had xrays, CT scans, Cameras up my nose, loads of blood tests and still i don't know whats causing all my problems. More and more doctors are telling me i'm just going to have to live with it, that is not an option, i have no life, im only 23 if i dont find an answer soon i wont reach 25.

So symptoms...

Chronic PND started about 10 years ago then about 5 years ago started getting more and more sinus infections, last few years i have sinus infections for months at a time, antibioics have stopped clearing them up, sprays and stuff dont work. When i have an infection i have loads of big clumps of dark green mucus at the back of my nose/throat which i have to sit there for litterally 10 minutes at a time violently blowing my nose to get rid of. When i dont have an infection, i have loads of mucus running down the back of my throat and big lumps that i choke on and have to bare until i can swallow them (sorry to be so graphic but im sure many of you are used to it!)

Last camera i had said there was puss in my sinuses but CT scan a few months later showed they were clear, so ENTs are saying, thats it, can't do anything for you. Ive also had pin ***** allergy test for pollen, dust, animals etc which was clear.

Now, i also have loads of problems with my stomach, which agin had all the tests, specialists said we cant find anything. I get loads of gurgling, always hungry, lots of wind and bloating. Could this be due to all the mucus im swollowing? I also suspect candida but doctors refuse to beleive its existance.. it;s the only thing ive come accross that has stomach and sinus problems and symptoms. I also suffer from sever fatigue, shortness of breath, temperature problems, foggy head etc etc. Im sure it all has to be connected.. if they cant find a cause for any of them, there must be something theyre missing causing all of it.

Sorry for the long post... any suggestions?! Thanks.

Hi, I really feel for you as I have similar myself, and yes i do believe mucus or (CATAARH) as it is correctly called can go hand in glove with Sinus and Stomach issues. My own mucus is so tough (sorry to be gross).. you could stretch it like elastic. At times its so bad I cant swallow or cough it up, it just hangs on (really sorry about the description). What does go into my stomach does not help my AR/GERD and CANDIDA. Have you tried the CANDIDA diet. I have just cut out Dairy Milk as I read its not good for our symptoms and starting today I have switched to Rice Milk...we will see!! Solofelix.

You probably have cronic sinisitus. Like you, I also have sinus issues and if I don't get it out then I wind up with an infection. Have you tried doing a sinus rinse with either a Neti pot or Neilmed sinus rinse? My ENT gave the Neilmen bottle to me and trust me..it helps a lot.

As far as Candida, that could play a role as well. When you get a lot of mucus yes it does go down the throat and into the stomach, as even my Drs. have told me that. If you had allergy tests it is very possible it is something in your diet. Wish I could be of more help.

Wishing you luck....JJ....

Re: Post nasal drip and chronic sinus infections for over 10 years..HELP!

Thanks JJ for the useful reply. I have not heard of a Neti-Pot here in Ireland. The strange thing is my Nose is not stuffed up so where this nasty Mucus is coming from beats me.
I have just started to cut out Dairy Milk and today had Rice Milk on my Porridge which I found quite nice (better than Soya). Ive already cut out sugar (Replaced with Xylitol). Will see how things progress in the next few weeks. Solofelix.
PS Our weather here dosent help!!..

Re: Post nasal drip and chronic sinus infections for over 10 years..HELP!

Hi there..do a search on the Neti pot and I'm sure there is something in your area like it. I didn't even notice your from Ireland. I'll be honest, the first 2 times I did it I was totally shocked so much could come out of a little nose... It takes some getting use to and it really looks strange to do but many people swear by it.

Hopefully laying off the milk might help as it is a huge mucus maker especially if you have a Candida problem. Keep us posted how your changes goes. As far as weather, we have also had some very wacky swings in ours so I know it is raising havoc on my sinuses.

Wishing you the best....JJ....

Re: Post nasal drip and chronic sinus infections for over 10 years..HELP!

Thanks for everyones replies.

The problems is, it's only in my nose once i get an infection, when i dont have one its all in my throat/behind my nose so Neti pots and that sort of thing wont do anything. I need to get to the bottom of what's causing it in the first place, the fact i have so many other unexplained symptoms makes me believe theres something being missed. I still strongly suspect candida but doctors here just complete dismiss it as rubbish and it isn't accepted in the medical community. I have tried the diet but it is soooo hard to stick to, especially with the digestive problems i have and i know the diet on its own doesn't rid you of candida anyway, you need to kill it off with antifungals... If there was a test to prove it was the root of my problem i could follow it, but its so hard to stick to such a restrictive diet and take loads of pills when you dont even know if its going to work... and its not like you can just do it for a week... candida takes months to even years to eradicate. I wish it was taken more seriously.

Re: Post nasal drip and chronic sinus infections for over 10 years..HELP!

I just don't know why Drs want to hide whenever one mentions Candida. I know I have it as every time the Dr gives me Nystatin for my mouth it disappears, but I still think I have it internally. The diet is very difficult and I slip up many times.Nystatin and Diflucan are Anti fungals. If you could get them on line (not sure if you can) then you could do a course of one type or the other to start to get rid of it and then continue with the diet, I
don't know why these medications are on prescription only as you can buy Vaginal Thrush products OTC. I wonder if an Alternative Health practitioner would test you for Candida and how do they go about it. Solofelix.

Re: Post nasal drip and chronic sinus infections for over 10 years..HELP!

this may or not,,help..The mucous may be from your estachiun tubes, which run parallel to your sinus's, from yourear, and meet up with the sinus at the back of your throat. As a child I used to get alot of ear infections, and I also used to clear my throat alot....I used to get in trouble for grunting...I didnt know till many years later that those 2 problems were connected, literally. My ears were draining back the wrong way, and it was going into the back of my throat...still does a bit... mum gave me codliver oil tablets and after that the infections seem to stop. Your probly getting infections because the gunk has been there so long. Add cod liver oil caps to you diet, see if after a few weeks u notice any difference.

Solofelix - i know it's so annoying, they won't even consider that it could be a real condition and im pretty sure i wont be able to get the antifungals online over here.

Nightingale - how did you find out the mucous was coming from your eustation tubes and how do you stop it?

Re: Post nasal drip and chronic sinus infections for over 10 years..HELP!

help wanted

People with 10-20 sinus infections annually have found a method to reduce that number down to about 1-2 per year. As one of the first comments mentioned, the Neil Med Irrigation Bottle with a sodium+bicarbonate solution is one of best methods to rid of sinus infections.

The salty packages that comes with the purchase is quite costly if purchased separately therefore the most cost-efficient way is to make your own solution! How do you do that? Very easy, all you need is kosher salt and baking soda. Add 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda into an 8 oz irrigation bottle and you're good to go (the irrigation bottle from the link I provided is the 8 oz size). Today, I use my own solution and it works just as well. You can also try just adding water+sea salt to see if this helps.

Best of luck to you.

Re: Post nasal drip and chronic sinus infections for over 10 years..HELP!

vinner...I use the Neilmed and you can get like 100 pks. in a box at Walmart for like 10.00. Like you I usually make my own and have actually used just plain water in a pinch and it still helps. The plain water I don't recommend as it tends to sting but hey, anything in a pinch.

JJ...
