burning smell in nose won't go away

A few months ago my mother had a pretty bad ear infection. It took a couple of rounds of anitbiotics to clear it up. Since then, she has had what she describes as a "burning" or "pepper" smell in her nose. She also complains of her lips burning. She called the nurse at her Dr. office who pretty much laughed it off and said she had never heard of such. I have tried researching online and haven't really found anything. As I said, it is constant for the last couple of months.

Has anyone heard of this or know what could be causing it? Do you have any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

Thanks for reading my post.
