| Lump in pharynx area - need advice
For the past three weeks I've experienced some difficulty getting food down. It feels like something was partially blocking my throat, and I'd get food caught in it that took a while to clear.
Today, I reached my finger as far back into my throat as I could, and I could feel an actual lump that seems to be growing out of my pharynx, or perhaps my larnyx. The lump feels soft and pliable. Easy to push down. It's in the back side of my throat.
This isn't painful and I have no trouble breathing, but it seems like it's getting harder for food to get past, and I'm worried. I can't see an ENT until next week.
I talked to my internist, and he thinks it's possibly a swollen gland. I do have hay fever, and it's been a tough spring around here, so maybe the mucous I've been sucking in has caused something to get infected. Aside from some acid reflux, I can't think of another reason why I should have this symptom. I'm 40, never have been a smoker and am in good health. I haven't had any bleeding, coughing, loss of appetite - any of the things you'd associate with something more serious.
Any thoughts? I'm thinking of just taking some antibiotics I have around the house left over from when one of my kids was sick recently to see if that helps, assuming it's a bacterial infection.
Thanks.
