I bet that a lot of people that have this experience don't realize that its probably allergies. The first thing you do is make an appointment to get tested with an allergist to see what you are allergic to. Its expensive but worth every penny. While you wait for the appointment day, take Benadryl as directed (half dosage during the day to prevent drowsiness). It is the strongest out there. Claritin, Zyrtex, Allegra etc. do nothing for severe allergies. Drink tons of water, especially plain hot water. Also, breathe in steam. Lay down with the muffled ear up as much as you can. And lastly, don't eat high sodium foods or DAIRY products, they make it all worse.
The allergist can prescribe you a round of Prednisone right away. This will get rid of the immediate problem and give you great relief but still keep up on the above listed recommendations.
