Tonsillectomy frustrations

So, I am on day 6 post-op and this process has been soooo much worse than i thought. I read all of the posts about the importance of drinking, drinking, drinking. I came out of surgery practically eating a Popsicle but once the vicodin tussi got ahold of me, everything went downhill. By day 2 my throat was so swollen and I couldn't stay awake for more than 20 minutes. By day 3 I thought I was developing a fever because of the body aches but also thought it could have been dehydration. Start of day 4, I went to the ER and after laying there for 7-8 hours, I was admitted with aspiration pneumonia. Just discharged this afternoon, Day 6, and of course, I feel like crap. The coughing is so painful and my ears are starting to hurt. I wonder now if this whole thing is just going to added to my recovery time? My scabs are sooo thick but I refuse to gargle anymore because I believe that may be what I aspirated on (the foamy crap fell down my throat while I slept).

Food tastes horrible and I want to scream for anything but ice cream!

When will this start to get better?

Sorry you are having these issues. It's very important to stay hydrated and keep your throat moist. There is a numbing gel that you can gargle that will help to deaden your throat. Ask your doctor for it. And take your pain meds- get them in liquid if need be.
