I have had a sinus infection for the past 4 days. I finally got meds yesterday and they are starting to work. I feel better today than I have the entire time. At the beginning, I was experiencing mild heartburn (which I've had before, but is not chronic). Over the next few days, it got worse. Once I swallow something, it immediately flares up and stings like heartburn. It started out only hurting when I would swallow things, now it hurts constantly. I have tried Tums, Pepto, Prilosec - nothing is working.
I had heard that post-nasal drip from a sinus infection can cause irritation in the esophagus and I'm wondering if maybe since the antibiotics are working, its draining more of that stuff in my nose and causing it to flare up more. Is that possible? And how can I get it to stop hurting? I haven't eaten anything legit in days.
Could be the drip from the sinus infection. Certain meds, such as antibiotics and antihistamines, can also cause or worsen GERD.
Rinsing out your sinuses might reduce the drainage. Unfortunately, once the esophagus is really irritated, it takes time to settle down. Liquid antacids, such as Mylanta or liquid Gaviscon, might be more soothing right now.

Thanks for the quick response. Are Mylanta and Gaviscon more effective than the liquid Pepto I tried that didn't help?
