Deviated septum and polypectomy

Over forty years ago I had the above operation under local. The polypectomy was bad enough but the use of a cold chisel and hammer on my septum (which is situated in a large mound between my eyes, my lower nose is totally flexible) was quite frankly, horrific. Also the improvement to my nasal problem was very short lived, only about six months. Has anyone else ever had this operation and if so, what was your result?

Re: Deviated septum and polypectomy

I had a deviated septum repaires about 50 years ago but have general anesthesia. Can't believe that they would do under a local only!

Anyway, what exactly is your problem? Stuffy nose? Have you had allergy testing? Recent scan of your sinuses?

Re: Deviated septum and polypectomy

Thank you for your reply. No, I have not had allergy testing etc, I have simply put up with the stuffy nose etc., I sincerely hope your result was better than mine. I am a complete wimp when it comes to needles and scalpels so in no hurry to have more work done.

Re: Deviated septum and polypectomy

i strongly suggest allergy testing. In the meantime, you might try zyrtec (cetirizine) and a saline nasal spray or rinse.
