| | very red inflamed throat
I have had a very red inflamed throat for about ten days now . This came on out of the blue one night the throat was burning then the next morning couldnt swallow and the whole throat bright red. .I managed to see the throat specialist very quickly who put the camera up the nose and down the throat and said it was very inflamed and the back of the throat was very dry. He said it was either the after math of a head cold I had had the week before or could be acid reflux. I was given omaprozel to try. And also that it would take time to go away. Two days later thought my throat was going to close over so saw my own doctor who was shocked at the state of my throat. Had some swabs done for strep and mouth thrush and blood tests .Was also told to stay on the reflux pills and if it was viral would know more when results came back whether I would need treatment and to just rest and take pain killer for the pain and gargle.. I was rung up two days later to say throat swabs were all clear and most likely to be viral and nothing they can do and that the Dr wanted the blood test repeated in a week . Asked what it was for and they said it was a rheumatoid Arthritis test for inflammation . Should be between 4 and 8 and mine was at 18. I can not eat properly as the pain in the throat is terrible and when I cough or talk I can feel the pain in the throat. Feels like something stuck in the throat which I think is swollen glands. I had the repeated blood tests yesterday and asked for another throat swab to be done as the throat so sore to be told I had had one the week before by the nurse and I had viral and wouldnt do it. I am out of my mind with this bad throat as nothing is helping it at all . I have never had a sore throat like this ever. I am going the dentist tomorrow for a check up and am going to get him to have a look at the state of my throat and see what he says .I cant swallow properly as feel the whole throat swollen. Can some one tell me whether viral does this and how long it will last for or should I be looking at more swab tests in case they missed something the first time. I have no cold, or runny nose, no headache but notice when I looked down my throat could see mucus on the back wall of the throat. Could this be the cause? I would like an antiobotic to get rid of this but if viral know it wont work. We are off over seas in 7 weeks time and hope its gone by then. Has anyone else ever had this.It is driving me mad.
