prednisone after ear surgery

I had surgery a few yrs ago to remove scar tissue from ear canals. Afterwards I was on a 12 day taper of prednisone. I think it was because I had a long history of ear infections and inflammation and the surgeon wanted to make sure I healed well.

However the scar tissue grew back within three months, so now I use hearing aids.

While on the prednisone I experienced muscle weakness in my legs, which scared me.

I have not had constant inflammation for about five years now, ears are much closer to normal (except for the scar tissue). My ENT says I could consider having the surgery done again.

But the idea of prednisone ... is bothering me. Is it always necessary to have prednisone post surgery? is it standard? Does anyone have any kind of surgery and not have prednisone after?

I will see my ENT in a few weeks and of course ask her but just curious as to others' opinion/experience.

thanks
