Neck cramps when I yawn

I get cramps in the left side of my neck when I yawn and don't know why. I can have this happen for a month or so and then it goes away for awhile before coming back again. My doctor doesn't have any idea why this happens either.

I have hypothyroidism and just had my dosage increased yesterday. I had an ultrasound done on my thyroid a month ago because it was enlarged but that turned out ok.

I also had a spinal fusion at C7/C7 a few years ago and they went in on the left side of my neck.

This is very painful when it happens and I'd like to find out what I can do to stop it. Any ideas?
