Frequent swollen, splotchy tonsils (whenever I get sick)

For years now anytime I get sick my tonsils swell up, get splotchy, and I can barely swallow. I've been to the doctor several times for this but nothing more than antibiotics has been done. I would say it happens 3-4 times a year.

Sometimes it's my only symptom (like right now) sometimes it comes with other symptoms.

Right now my lymph nodes do not seem to be swollen (they swell when I am really sick)

But where people seem to get a cold, if I "catch" it, this is what seems to happen.

It has never been recommended to get a tonsillectomy or anything.

Is this something that is "normal" just how my body reacts to being sick or should I be concerned?

The last time this happened I was tested for strep and it was negative.

Thank you for the help!
