On going Fungal ear infection

Several weeks ago i had walking pneumonia and was treated with Z packs ( 2 ) Towards the very end i developed a very bad earache and looked up ear infections & pneumonia which is very common I figured my second dose of Z pack would knock it out. well it didnt i lost hearing in my ear and spent Memorial day on the couch. Finally Tuesday I wento a walk in clinic by my house because I didnt want to wait to se ENT which was schelud for this past Wednesday. The doctor ( if you want t call her one ) took a quick look said i had a bacterial infection probably releated to my condition and gave me cypro drops. I took them but got worse along with hearing. I FINAlly saw reputable ENT He said EWE what a mess I had a fungal infection NOT bacterial and the cypro did more harm then good. I have a bad habit with ear swabs becuse of wax & itching. well he cleaned it out REALLY good Put peroxide in which felt GREAAT even though it stung a little and put me on Lotrmin drops same as what you would sue for athlestes foor and antibodic CEFTIN twice a day for ten days . After 3 days i called him back I couldn't get ear drops in they were running down my cheek and when they did it burned like h*ll. He said that was normal and would subside and my canel may have closed up a little If it didnt clear up after 5 days to call. well today is day 5 same problem with drops but NO PAIN havnt had any since the drops on Wed or Thurs. here is my problem i have maybe 20 % hearing in my left ear its driving me CRAZY Im worried it may be permanent There is NO improvement after all this time And I really do NOT want to take any more anti biodics Any advise ?

Re: On going Fungal ear infection

ive had an ongoing fungal ear infection for 5 months now, [otis media] ive gone through 2 doctors, and a specialist, all have just been clutching at straws, i have had the same problems, antibiotics made it worse, ive gone through 3 types of ear drops as well as aqua ear drops for swimmers ear, at the "recomendation" of the 2nd doctor, it burnt like petrol,. im on my 3rd doctor now, every 3 days he flushes both the ears out with a big syringe then fills the ears [ the 2nd doctor cross-infected my good ear] with "ichthammol" a black goo, then plugs them with a small piece of bandage, its called an ear-wick, it relives the "symptoms" the itch the infection and the puss, but its not a cure, ive had 2 meltdowns, and have no hope of this ending, i hope you have better luck.

Re: On going Fungal ear infection

Can you tell me if someone can have a fungal infection inside the ear and it not be able to be seen by the looking at it. I know you can get one on the outside of the eardrum.
