10 days post tonsillectomy... Help!!

I am 10 days in, and I am still in a lot of pain!!!! Mornings and nights are the absolute worst! I can't sleep more then 3-4 hrs without waking up in pain. During the day the pain is better probably a 5/10 but when I swallow/eat anything it's a 8-9/10! It's impossible for me to eat. It burns so bad! It feels like pouring alcohol into an open wound everytime I eat anything! Even if its a smoothie. I'm literally eating soup only and occasionally jello And pudding. I'm starting to feel extremely week. I've tried drinking a protein shake and I just can't do it!

I feel like I should be better than this at day 10! My scabs look soo much better but not completely gone by any means. I also still can't talk more than a few words!

Is it normal to be in this much pain 10 days post op? How much longer of this? I need to go back to work! And can't wait to eat!

Re: 10 days post tonsillectomy... Help!!

Went and saw my ENT today and he said depending on your age it can take 4 weeks or longer to heal. I have found that cloraseptic its max strength before I eat works wonders burns crazy at first. He said it is fine as long as you don't use it too much. Room temp food doesn't burn as bad. It still awful I am 6 days out and really hungry but have no clue what to eat mush is just getting old.

Yeah that's normal. I'm surprised you can get jello down, I wasn't able to. The number 1 thing that helped me during recovery was ice water. Force yourself to drink so you don't get dehydrated. Some things you guys could try eating are soft scrambled eggs and Boost drinks which are like a meal. Try to stay away from milk products as much as possible because it will cause phlegm and make it even harder to swallow. You should start feeling better after 2 weeks from surgery, I'm still recovering and its almost been a month.

Two steps forward three back. Back to drinking only. Been drinking water, tea and protein shakes. Throat now feels like its burning constantly. I have lost 17 lbs in 8 days so ready to feel better.
