I need help with a problem this weekend...

This weekend is Father's Day, and my family is planning to have my grandparents over and we're going to eat a big dinner. Well, me being the person I am, I'm thinking 'OH MY GOSH, WHAT DO I DO?!' The main problem is that if my grandparents are over, eating a salad is not an option, b/c they'll mention it. So I think I'm going to eat.

The problem with eating is that it's all my favorite foods, so I'll eat too much. If I try a little of everything it'll be too much, so I've already planned to throw it up. I don't know what else to do! I feel bad, b/c I've been good for three or four days now, but I don't feel like I have any choice. I know there's probably nothing I can do, but I feel better just getting it off my chest.

Re: I need help with a problem this weekend...

Well what are you having for dinner (like what will be served?)

I know exactly what youre feeling, Ive gone through it MANY MANY times lol. It doesnt seem to get easier...I can tell you what I've done though, but its not really a good thing to do. What I did a lot was to eat very little (i ate SOMETHING, just not a lot..lunch and breakfast totalling 500ish Cals) and then ate without worry at dinner. This way, if you have a lil of everything (even if you dont and just eat what you like in normal portions) you definately dont have to worry about going "over".

Another thing you could do (which works really well for me) is to copy what someone else is eating. Take your mom, for example, and fill your plate like she fills hers- you can even take out some things that she has, making it even less then hers. You know that she can eat normally and she will not gain weight from this meal, so you wont either.

If you find out what you're having, you can plan what youre going to eat and make it reasonable. For example, if youre having steak and mashed potatoes and salad: Plan to have a palm sized portion of steak (easy to visually measure), a scoop of potatoes and lots of salad. The steak will be about 200 Cals (palm sized), a scoop of potatoes (lets say its a half-cup) will be 100 and the salad is probably 50 (up to 100 if you have a lot). You could have a drink but its up to you. You could always stick to water, a diet pop, or have a glass of juice/milk/can of pop (150 cals) Total dinner? 550, including the big salad portion and a can of pop. That's not THAT much!!

So you can have your dinner (pretty reasonable cal too..), appear to eat normally, and not get harassed at the same time. Hope this helps!!

Re: I need help with a problem this weekend...

That's a great idea! My mom's serving salad, so I can eat a ton of that to fill up my plate. We're having veggie lasagna, garlic bread, and ice cream too (that's gonna be the killer). I guess I'll have half a peice of lasagna, a peice of garlic bread, and a few bites of ice cream. That should please everyone, and not freak me out. The only hard part will be not to binge and eat a ton of everything, since she's serving all my favorite foods! I'll try and talk instead of focusing on food, so I don't eat as much. Thanks and God Bless!

Re: I need help with a problem this weekend...

Sounds yummy!! They're my fav foods too. I don't really get the "bingeing feeling" given that i just restricted everything. Why don't you ask your mom or dad to fill up your plate? You can watch them, and they obviously aren't going to put insane amounts on..and hopefully having your grandparents there will be a little more motivation not to binge and look back in front of them. You don't have to distract yourself, just try to control your urges. I find it easiest (esp when I get the urge to excersise or something) is to do what everyone else is doing. Theyre not going to gain weight if they dont burn off dinner cals, why would you?? I know it'll be hard, Ive gone thru it many many times...GOOD LUCK
