Re: songs about eating disorders??

Steph
This isn't necessarily a song that puts a negative twist on the ED world but it makes people think. The song "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera. It kind of talks about the struggles but it also talks about how we are all beautiful no matter what but that it is really hard to see. Here are the lyrics. Good luck!

Don't look at me Every day is so wonderful
And suddenly, it's hard to breathe
Now and then, I get insecure
From all the fame, I'm so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends, you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Trying hard to fill the emptiness
The piece is gone and the puzzle undone
That's the way it is

You are beautiful no matter what they say
Words won't bring you down
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words won't bring you down

Re: songs about eating disorders??

4St 7lbs by Manic Street Preachers

Days since I last ******.
Cheeks sunken and despaired.
So gorgeous sunk to six stone.
Lose my only remaining home.
See my third rib appear.
A week later all my flesh disappear.
Stretching taut, cling-film on bone.
I'm getting better.

Karen say's I've reached my target weight.
Kate and Emma and Kristin know it's fake.
Problem is diet's not a big enough word.

I wanna be so skinny that i rot from view.

I want to walk in the snow. and not leave a footprint.
I want to walk in the snow. and not spoil its purity.

Stomach collapsed at five.
Lift up my skirt my sex is gone.
Naked and lovely and 5st 2.
May bud and never flower.
My vision's getting blurred.
But I can see my rib's and I feel fine.
My hands are trembling stalks.
And I can feel my breasts are sinking.

Mother tries to choke me with roast beef.
And sits savouring her sole ryvita.
That's the way you're built my father said.

But I can change, my cocoon shedding

I want to walk in the snow. and not leave a footprint.
I want to walk in the snow. and not spoil its purity.

Kate and Kristin and kit kat.
All things I like looking at.
Too weak to fuss, too weak to die.
Choice is skeletal in everybody's life.

I choose, my choice, I starve to frenzy.
Hunger soon passes and sickness soon tires.
Legs bend, stockinged I am twiggy.
And I don't mind the horror that surrounds me.

Self- worth scatters, self esteem's a bore.
I long since moved to a higher plateau.
This discipline's so rare so please applaud.
Just look at the fat scum who pamper me.

Yeh 4st 7, an epilogue of youth.
Such beautiful dignity in self-abuse.
I've finally come to understand life.
Through staring blankly at my navel.

Re: songs about eating disorders??

Another one is 'Ana's Song' by Silverchair...Daniel Johns (lead singer) suffered from anorexia early on and wrote this...it has some poignant lyrics as it is about the obsession rather than the consequences and is written from the sufferer's point of view.

Please die Ana
For as long as you're here we're not
You make the sound of laughter and sharpened nails seem softer

And I need you now somehow
And I need you now somehow

Open fire on the needs designed on my knees for you
Open fire on my knees desire's what I need from you

Imagine pageant
In my head the flesh seems thicker
Sandpaper tears corrode the film

And I need you now somehow
And I need you now somehow

Open fire on the needs designed on my knees for you
Open fire on my knees desire's what I need from you

And you're my obsession
I love you to the bones
And Ana wrecks your life
Like an anorexia life

Re: songs about eating disorders??

The song "Walk Away" by Barlow isnt necessarily for an ED specifically, but most of the messages still hold true (ot also does mention one..)

Christine’s depression never seems to end
Cause She’ll never be as skinny as the girls on ‘Friends’
She got fat hips and thin lips, she’s jealous of a Q-tip
She’d take stupid over fat
She stuck her fingers down her throat for the very last time today
And she walked away

Malcolm’s got his image
His rock and his Glock
If he lives to see 20 he will have beat the clock
He’s got his ride and his pride and girls by his side
He makes his stand with the gun in his hand
He saw his best friend lying on a stainless steel tray
And he walked away

And the destinations clear …anywhere but here

It Doesn’t matter that you’re lying in the gutter
It Doesn’t matter that your brain’s all cluttered
It Doesn’t matter that you’re covered in scars
You’re never in the gutter with your eyes on the stars

So Walk away from the boyfriend bruises
And the shame of the game that your brain knows you’re losing
And the job that you do it just robs you of who
You can be when you’re free from this mentality
So you're home by the phone getting stoned all alone
With your chatroom friends, your Korn and Ramones
But the phone don’t ring and Joey just sings ‘Sedated’
You gotta learn to hate it

It Doesn’t matter that you’re lying in the gutter
It Doesn’t matter that your brain’s on all cluttered
It Doesn’t matter that you’re covered in scars
You’re never in the gutter with your eyes on the stars

Re: songs about eating disorders??

Well that manic street preachers song is one I have been obsessed with in the past thats for sure!

Personally speaking I find the song Perfect by Alanis Morrisette explains how an ed makes me feel. Like I have to be perfect.

Sometimes is never quite enough
If you're flawless, then you'll win my love
Don't forget to win first place
Don't forget to keep that smile on your face

Be a good boy
Try a little harder
You've got to measure up
And make me prouder

How long before you screw it up
How many times do I have to tell you to hurry up
With everything I do for you
The least you can do is keep quiet

Be a good girl
You've gotta try a little harder
That simply wasn't good enough
To make us proud

I'll live through you
I'll make you what I never was
If you're the best, then maybe so am I
Compared to him, compared to her
I'm doing this for your own damn good
You'll make up for what I blew
What's the problem...why are you crying

Be a good boy
Push a little farther now
That wasn't fast enough
To make us happy
We'll love you just the way you are if you're perfect

Take care,
H xoxo
