I could really relate to found24 when she mentioned all the empty laxative boxes. I threw a bunch away today too. I can't talk to my mom about it though. She would totally flip and start yelling at me telling me to quit. It just isn't that easy.

I am really frustrated with myself over this today. I finally called the ARNP that I see and talked to her about it again, mostly because I am getting scared (but not enough to quit unfortunately). She just kept telling me I need to quit. I ALREADY KNOW THAT!!!!!! I guess next week I will let my therapist know just how big of a problem it really is. I don't want to just kill over from a heart attack someday.

Hey Gail...

I'm sorry, I haven't read the other post, but I wasn't sure if you knew...

laxitaves don't work. In the end, all you're losing is water. And electrolytes, which are essential for your heart. Believe me (from experience!), the pounds still find their way on.

Just think of all the money you're wasting to be dehydrated, feel like &#^$, and feel alone...

Hi Gail, I am sorry to hear that you are still having the same problem with the laxatives that I am. I know it is hard to stop, even when people say they are bad for you. I am really trying today, yesterday didn't go good. Today I only took four. I am trying not to take anymore tonight. I have been having major chest pains and I felt like I couldn't breathe when I was in the mall today. My chest was getting really tight. It scared me like you, but it has to scare us enough to stop or at least start to cut back. Maybe if we both really try to cut back. It's good that you have a counselor. You should mention it. I really want to talk to someone, but I can't get the nerve up and I don't know who I would go to anyway.
Take care and know that I understand how you are feeling about this right now. We both need to find a way to get this under control. Try starting tomorrow to cut the number down and work down from there. That is what I am trying to do. I know if I stop cold turkey, I will go right back to it.

Hey Girls,
I kinda hit the wrong button and got in this board, sorry, but I got interested in your posts. I had heard of girls that used laxatives but did'nt really believe it. I did a search and some reading. It appears that this can be not such a good thing. I certainly think that it is as hard on your body as doing some drugs is. It will certainly kill you or make it where sooner or later they have to remove your colon and you get to wear that little bag attached to you to expel your waste into. It seems that carrying it around would interfer with what clothes you could wear and changing it would be a real drag, don't you think?
