Post alone

I was a binge eater. I ate so much. food was my best friend and I gained so much weight. I finally got over it. It took 10 months of hard emotional work to do it and I can still feel it there every once in a while but I can fight it now easy.

But now I am getting addicted to Starbucks drinks. When I get upset I run to Starbucks to get some drink.

I just am beginning to realize I am always running. While I was getting over food, shopping helped me, 6000.00 in credit card debt now its Starbucks.

I realize I have gotten over my addiction to food but not the addiction.

Hey there, CityKittie. I love your name!

I never realised you also suffered from an eating disorder! I'm so sorry about that. I'm sure you'll get some wonderful responses from the people here at this board - I know I've found it to be extremely helpful.

As for the binge eating - congratulations for how far you've already come in those ten months! Did you ever receive any help for the binge eating or did you do it on your own? If you haven't already, please go and talk to a counselor because if you don't find OTHER, HEALTHIER ways to cope with whatever's making you do this, you'll only jump from one thing to another. Please go and get professional help.

As well as that, maybe you could come up with a list of other things you can do when you feel the need to binge, etc. My therapist had me do this and always keep a list with me, so whenever I felt the need to purge or binge, I could take out the list and choose from a range of things to do - like spend some time riding or grooming my horse, going for a run, reading a book, etc. I quickly found out which of those things worked and which didn't. For instance, reading a book wouldn't help me because it didn't distract me enough to take my mind off all those ED thoughts. Maybe you could try something like this?

Good luck! And I hope you find something that really helps for you soon.

Take care,
Ashlee

Hey hon,

I also love your name!! VERY CUTE. it deserves a bouncy frog.... hehe

Also---congrats on overcoming your binge eating problem!!! You deserve a big pat on the back for that one!!!!!

Unfortunatly, it sounds like the addictive part of your disorder just manifested itself into somethign else I'm so sorry to hear that. What kinds of things did you do when you were working on getting over your binge eating problem? Maybe those things would work again? It sounds like the same problem, but a different issue. GOOD LUCK

NEVER GIVE UP
~sarah~

Citykittie, I was very interested when I saw that you suffer from the same problem I've been struggling w/ intensly for the past six years. I have not come across too many people who have managed to overcome binge eating! Do you think getting a Starbucks drink is better for you than going on a real binge? If you've overcome the monster, even for a little while, I believe you have the strength to overcome this addiction too. I'm the last person to be giving you advice b/c I'm more messed up in terms of overeating than I've ever been in my life. Would you be willing to share how you began to recover in the first place? I would really appreciate any input you have. Thanks. Happy holidays and don't beat yourself up over this b/c even though you may not be fully recovered yet, you are way ahead of where you used to be. Hope to hear from you soon.
