Unhappy could this lead to an eating disorder?

For a while now when ever I eat I feel really guilty! Like for whatever reason I shouldn't eat. When I look in the mirror I feel so fat. Like if I could only loose five or ten pounds I would be happy. It doesn't matter what my family or friends tell me I still see myself as fat. I've even tried to throw up after I ate once, but I just couldn't make myself do it. I really need some advice. Thanks!

Hi katherine,

First of all, you do have some of the warning signs of an eating disorder, but of course we're not medical professionals here. But it's great that you're recognizing the signs and are wanting help...that's amazing. As for trying to throw up, just remember that eating disorders start off small...the thoughts are "if I lose 10 pound I will let myself eat" but then when you lose 10 pounds you need to lose another 5, and then another 5 and eventually you're in this horrible cycle that you can't get out of. Good luck hon...sorry I couldn't write that much, I'm on my way out the door. Just wanted to send you my support!! Let us know how you're doing!!

Katherine, Please be careful. What you are describing are early signs. Sarah is right that it is great that you have recognised the signs and are looking for help. We can help you to a degree, but dont let it go too much further before you look for some real help. We will always be here to support you, but we don't have all tghe answers, I wish I did sometimes!! Take care, and come here whenever you like, Jay x

Hey Kathrine,
All the others made wonderful points and I hope you go and talk to someone. A lot of the times people who develop eating disorders do so because they need to take focus off something negative in their life and it's easier to focus on food(that's not always the case.) Take care hon and if you get a chance update us.

Hi Katherine,
I'm glad to see that you realize that the things you are feeling are not right. That's a great first step. Like the others have said, starving yourself or making yourself throw up may seem like a good way to lose a few pounds, but really it is only the beginning of a horrible cycle. Do you think that there is anyone you could talk to about this? Your family, a school counselor, or even a friend? They might be able to help you before things get out of your control. I hope this may have helped a bit, but please just try to remember that no one deserves to be unhapppy with themselves, including you!
