Post my girlfriend has an eating disorder. please help

my girlfriend has had issues with food for a couple years now, but i dont think she's every really had a full-blown eating disorder until now. i mean she would go through phases where she'd starve herself for a little while or periods where she'd make herself throw up, but it never lasted that long. but in just the past couple weeks she's really getting into it. i can see clearly now that she has an eating disorder, and so can she, as she's said the same thing herself. she's been eating very little, and throwing up. she always sleeps. she's lost a lot of weight throughout the whole thing, especially recently. she's now down to 112(weighs herself all the time), when she weighed 125 not too long ago. (she's 16). i can see her getting deeper into it day by day, and i need to know what to do. her mom knows she's had problems with this in the past but i think she thinks its over now. and i cant really tell her mom, because amelia(my girlfriend)has asked me not to many times. so listen any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot you guys

hi! you should definately get some pamphlets on eating disorders and read up on them a little. although you and i know she is bulimic maybe it isn't quite so apparant to her mother. although your girlfriends says don't tell mom, you really should. i can see you really care alot for her and it only makes sense that you reach out and help even if she doesn't think you are helping by telling her. i hope you can speak to her mother, maybe just say hey i am worried about amelia when she is with me she doesn't seem to be eating alot and i was worried that maybe she was going back to the way she used to be. i don't want to see her hurt and i would appreciate it if you could speak to her without mentioning me. i hope i have helped you. please feel free to respond at any time and i will write back. :-)

hi! i can understand your worry for your girlfriend. i myself suffered with an eating disorder for 8 years..its definately not easy. im not sure if i will be any help to you or not but i can try. first of all your girlfriend has already taken the first step (admitting she has a problem.) thats a tough step. i would recomment her going to see her primary care physician first. he will be able to diagnose her and also make sure no physical harm has been done. as far as her mom goes..i think if she doesn't want her to know, thats fine. my parents had no clue when i went into treatment the last time and it made things alot easier for my recovery. they did not know how to deal with it at all. so, as long as she is willing to seek help then i see no reason for her mother to know if she doesn't want her to. the only advice i can give to you is to support her through this and listen. believe me its terrible to go through. please let me know how things are going.

Hi somethingvague.

This is my frist time posting on this page. I have posted on the e page. Sorry to here about your girlfriend. There are web sights that you can go to that has alot of good imformation that might help you out.I don't know if you have ever heard of the singer by the name of Karen Carpenter she also had a eating disorder, She had Anorexic, You might be able to go to her web site and read up on your girl friends problem.
If i were you i would talk to her mother so she can watch out for her.

Have to go for now.
Josephine

Hey, I'm really sorry this has happened. I've been with my bf for three yrs, and im 16 now, and a year ago I had anorexia and I had to BEG him not to talk to my parents.

YOU NEED TO STOP IT NOW! Shes lost weight , but not to an extreme, and the longer she continues losing the harder its going to be for her to stop.

When I was anorexia my bf told me I didnt look good at that weight and that I was took skinny. He told me he would be there for me and he loved me, but honestly, there was nothing he could say or do to make me better. The only way shes going to break this habit is by getting outside help.

I really hope things work out, please keep us updated.
