I saw a new tdoc today and we discussed some of the symptoms I've been having in regards to my bipolar and schizoaffective disorders.

During our discussion we happened to get on the topic of eating. She asked me some questions about my eating habits and was shocked after I told her that I had lost <a lot of weight>.

I told her how I don't like to eat when I'm manic, I don't like to eat when I'm depressed and I don't like to eat when I feel "level" or "normal." I told her how I can go for days on end without eating.

I also said that I have alot of concerns about weight gain -- especially because of the mood stabilizer (Depakote) and antipsychotic (Risperdal) I'm on.

The last thing I told her was that when I or someone else prepares my food, it can't be too much or too little. The amount has to be just right or else I worry about gaining weight.

After telling her all of this, she concluded that I have an eating disorder.

Could this be true? Do some of the things I mentioned above indicate an eating disorder?

Right now I'm so confused and don't know what to believe.

I'd really appreciate hearing any thoughts about this.

Does anyone have any idea as to whether or not I *might* have an eating disorder? As I mentioned, I'm confused and don't know what to believe. Do any of the behaviors listed below sound as if they could be representative of an eating disorder? I'd really appreciate hearing any feedback. Thanks.

All I can tell you is that I have bipolar and an eating disorder and I have alot of your symptoms. I would take what your doctor said seriously and look into it. <removed> Good luck

Thanks for your reply.

I spoke to my doctor today about a different issue and during our discussion I happened to mention the symptoms I outlined in my post below.

When I asked her if she thought I had an ED, she said "no" and that all of my behaviors were the result of my bipolar, rapid cycling and schizoaffective disorder. She said when people are depressed, they don't *feel* like eating and when they are manic, they have so much energy inside of them that they don't *want* to eat. She also told me that weight loss is a criterion for mania which doesn't follow along the lines of an ED diagnosis.

I've decided that I'm going to talk to my regular tdoc about this to see what he thinks. I've been seeing him for over a year and he knows me well enough to be honest and tell me if he believes this to be true.
