My eating disorder (nightmare) started years back at the junior /sophmore year of high school I am (29) as of now.I was rather over weight with the bad coping mechanism of food as a kid.THey speculate it was a coping mechanism for going un medicated for my ADHD, BIpolar dual diagnosis.I ended up picking up the habit of not eating almost anything during the week and only eating well on weekends.My weight yoyoed thru out the end of high school.I switched to exersice bulimia for three straight years ( a large amount of food at one time of day and constant exercise around full time community college courses).I stoped the exercise bulmia and droped on weight quickly still eating the same aount of food.I was hospitalized for depression and the start of anorexia.I went out patiant for anorexia my parents were told they should have caught it sooner and to qoute from the treating nutrisionist( I would probably be low functioning aftyer this whole ordeal and that my intial abuse of food that started all this ment i had low impulse control with adhd)I have for the last 6 years dealt with a nealy constant sense of hunger , no memory and ability to think, mood swings,Lack of rem sleep,at times i am in agony from hunger pains all day long ( i don't understand).I am (29) as of now and wondering after so many years if the damage is permenant and if its a debilitating life long condition and if i will ever recover enough to run my own life.( I was recomended going inpatiant but no one will accept me my weight is to stable and my blood pressure if right where it should be insurance will not cover it).DOes any one have any advice ?

Just reading this I feel so terribly sorry for you. I am no doctor but I think on of the best ways to start getting better is by developing a very very fixed routine. Get 8 hours of sleep EVERY night and go to bed at EXACTLY the same time. Try not to take too much medication (for headaches, sleeping etc) because it seems like your tummy needs a few years to work out what its job in your body is. Eat 6 times a day. Start with breakfast, eat a morning snack, have a well-rounded lunch, then an afternoon snack, then supper (more than 4 hours before you go to bed because sleeping on a big meal is bad for digestion), and perhaps have a very small snack, e.g. crackers and cheese about an hour before bed. Depending on your job make the biggest effort possible to eat these meals at exactly the same time every day. Humans are creatures of routine and your body hasn't had a good one for years. If you can develop an iron routine like this I think it will be the first step towards a healthier mind, improving your memory, lowering anxiety, and getting rid of those hunger pains. If you struggle with you body image, let me tell you that I am extremely underweight without meaning to be, and many days I cry about how ugly I look because I am so thin. I know it's a little different for girls and guys, but underweight guys are much less attractive than the ones who are slightly overweight - I don't mean fat because that also causes physical strain, just if you're going to swing a little one way or the other, overweight beats underweight in terms of attractiveness.
I am recovering from bulimia right now, I'm in my first week of recovery, and it's sooo difficult. The bloating I'm experiencing right now, because my stomach basically "forgot" how to digest food according to my dr., makes me look 8 mo. pregnant. No joke!! I started getting self help online from all kinds of blogs and forums such as this one, and it really does help. My advice to you is structured eating! In order to recover from bulimia, structured eating is essential. I plan all my meals and snacks for the day in the morning when I wake up or the night before. And I stick to it. Don't pick @ any food, don't eat until ur meal or snack is prepared and in front of you, and eat sitting at the kitchen table, without any distractions, if possible. Sit and chew your food slowly, @ least 20 times before swallowing. Try to close your eyes and enjoy the taste and texture of every bite. This helps so much for your digestion, and for your body to know when you're full. Also, try not to drink much with your meal, it may bloat you. When you start keeping your food down, you are very bloated @ first, @ least I am, and everyone else I've talked to in recovery experiences the bloat usually. The dr. gave me some meds for digestion that I just started taking today, hopefully they help. I'm also taking vitamins and herbal supplements that aide digestion and probiotics. Also, any foods that trigger you to binge should be kept out of the house. For me, that's cakes, cookies, etc. I'm also 29, and I've been bulimic for 10 yrs. I am also in counseling for substance abuse, I was a drug addict for several yrs. as well. I'm on day 5 of no binge/purging, and I feel great other than the massive bloating that is. Good luck!
