Health concerns after eating disorder

I have health concerns after having had this for about 8 years, the past 5 of which it has mostly gotten more severe…I was hospitalized in 2008 and 2010 and stabilized, once for a year. So two years were in treatment, mostly at a stable healthy weight. One year was in a hospital, which may not have been healthy because I wasn't that active. They did allow some activity though, small weight training (after the first few months) to try and rebuild bones. The second treatment was even more food but yoga and more outtings, and about the same amount of exercise.

Toward the end of my hospital stay I started having occasional breathing difficulty where I'd become suddenly lethargic and cold, lay down as if exhausted, wake up and be able to breath normal again.

Wrote this off as anxiety but later on in residential treatment, it only happened more and more (and my weight was actually higher, "set point" rather than just hospital goal weight). The only thing I can think is my body wasn't able to handle that because I've never been fully grown like that before, but I don't know if that's just my eating disorder talking.

I developed purge-type anorexia 6 months ago or so, unfortunately. I had never purged, abused laxatives, or done anything other than restrict, feel like I was binging, and punitive-exercise to compensate.

It got bad where I would try to walk to class in the morning and run out of breath, struggling to walk in the door. It was like my heart fluttered too much and I almost tasted blood. Is this common?

I apologize for so many questions. Many doctors aren't specialized so I don't know where to turn. I will of course see my doctor, too, but I'd like to know what to ask, what is common, and have as much knowledge as possible. I don't want this anymore.

I also have fairly severe low back pain - I never used to get this before treatment. After weight restoration and further (to set point) in residential, I had to go to the ER for sudden back pain that made it impossible to bend. It luckily resolved after a few days and medication, but it was never fully explained to me.

Just that I have spine bone problems for my age and there were fractures (I didn't get in any sort of accident, in fact, not even anything mild because I was in treatment where exercise was monitored and I could not have pulled it doing anything since you basically can't do anything strenuous like lift heavy things, drive, etc. in treatment).

I still have ongoing backpain and it's actually worse the better I'm doing with recovery?? Then I think maybe bloat or stomach contents actually makes it hurt more, maybe? Like how women with their period have their low back hurt sometimes?

I also don't understand why my period was gone for 6 years but now comes whether I lose back down to that weight or not.

Is there anything else I should try to ask my doctor? What does it mean when your legs feel like they're going to give out or the muscles hurt bad while you walk? What about the tingling and numbness that's way quicker now, like legs and arms fall asleep instantly?

Lastly, are night sweats good, and does edema resolve itself, even if you wake up one morning way puffier, and has anyone gotten puffy eyes like eyelid closed/hard to see out of. (Don't worry, I just want if anyone can relate or knows anything about these symptoms so I can ask my doctor. I do have medical help available.) Thanks!

Maybe you could get your kidneys checked. Kidney problems can cause back pain and edema. I would also have them check your electrolyte levels. Tingling and muscle weakness are signs of low potassium and low electrolytes in general. Purging or using laxatives can lower electrolytes to dangerous levels.

Don't worry what you are experiencing is really normal. I experienced all these things in recovery. I've never written on here before but wanted to let you know. Th edema lasted about a year, I get it still when I exercise sometimes. I advise you to get som blood tests and correct any deficiencies you may have. Best of luck x
