Anorexia (with purging now) and 2.2 potassium

I was in the ER last week because my potassium level was a 2.2, I think from purging, and restricting so severely. I was given IV potassium, magnesium, and 24 potassium supplements. After staying overnight I was at a 3.3.

I was discharged but told to continue taking the magnesium and potassium supplements and get a follow-up test later that week. My EKG in the hospital was abnormal. My doctor did a follow-up EKG later that week, and though my levels were back to a safe range, my EKG was still abnormal.

I'm still struggling, I know it's insane but I have the hardest time getting myself to consume anything.

Is it concerning that the EKG is still abnormal? How often should I test for low potassium? When I wound up in the hospital with a 2.2 that was WITH taking supplements...I've purged since then...I know how horrible this sounds, but please help?

Re: Anorexia (with purging now) and 2.2 potassium

Hi,

Just checking did you have another EKG? Were the results normal?
When you say abnormal, I assume an irregular heart beat?????

Please be careful.

I have suffered with anorexia for 20 years now and I am left with a heart condition that soon enough I will end up with a pace maker.

Because of anorexia, I have had several strokes too.

Oh, I wish this would not happen to others.

Please take care and I hope your seek help or seeing someone for professional help.

You are in my thoughts.
